Carpet Squares

Carpet squares have been successfully used for over 25 years as a flooring solution for businesses including hospitals, offices, hotels and airports and are now becoming extremely popular as a residential alternative.

 Carpet Squares - Why?

The idea behind them is, like many good ideas, very simple. Instead of rolled carpet that will have a width of 12, 13 or 15 feet, the carpet will usually be 18 by 18 inches, or as in the Legato carpet tiles, 19.7 Inches (50 cm) by 19.7 Inches (50 cm).

Carpet squares (Milliken carpet tiles) for commercial use also come in 36 inches by 36 inches sizes- which allow for much less waste and installation effort in large areas.

There are a series of benefits in modular carpet tiles, some of which are:

Installation. Much easier than traditional carpet rolls as the squares fit in snuggly without the need for specialized equipment.

    • The interlocking carpet tiles have the added advantage of less time and effort during installation and also it allows you to combine colors giving your the ability to create patterns with the greatest of ease.

Replacement. One of the difficulties that wall to wall carpet rolls have is that when the carpet is damage (spills, burns or whatever), you have to remove the whole roll. This means having a professional installer come in and also having to move all the furniture and it will also mean that you cannot use the room for at least 24 hours.

    • With carpet tile   if a square is stained, it is a simple task to replace the damaged tile with another tile of the same design. You just lift the damaged or worn tile, replace it with another. In fact you can replace it not from stock, but with another that is not so worn out as it isn't subjected to traffic - under the bed or example.
    • Your times and cost savings are incredible as you do not have to replace all the carpet in the room, but only the damaged or stained tile.
    • Usually you will be wise to buy a few more carpet tile squares than the exact need as a safe guard for future replacement.

Design and Color Options. As you decorate your home or office, one of the usual things you have to take into account is the overall color theme.

    • Carpet squares come in different styles and designs just like traditional wall to wall carpet - but with another advantage and that is you are able to combine carpet tiles to form new patterns- here your taste and imagination is the limit.
    • All carpet squares should come with a tougher backing, as it is not just a square piece of carpet but a carpet tile, and so must be able to stand the pressure of traffic on its own and combined with other tiles. This means that the carpet pile height will not go as high as some residential carpets - although the total height (backing plus yarn) will always be greater than that of an equivalent carpet roll construction.

Carpet squares are becoming more popular as a residential choice both as an alternative for wall to wall carpeting, and for rug designs.

Once you carpet tiles arrive you will love the fact that they are packed in boxes and not brought into your house as a large, heavy and cumbersome roll of carpet. Then as you open the box and start spreading the carpet tiles, you should place them on the floor. Soon, and before you start the installation you will be able to appreciate the new look.

If you have more than one color carpet  square, you can let your creative juices flow by combining the tiles and coming up with grand decorative ideas.
